Local Washington Electricians

Electrical Repair Services

When the power is working, you hardly notice it. When it is not, it throws your whole house off. Lights flicker, outlets stop working, or a breaker keeps tripping. In some cases you might even smell something burning. These are not problems to push off for later.

Black Hills, Inc. has been helping families in Washington with electrical repairs for decades. We know the older homes in this region, we know the damp climate, and we know how to keep systems safe.

Signs of Electrical Issues

Small issues can point to bigger problems. Watch for:

  • Lights dimming or flickering when appliances kick on
  • Breakers that trip often
  • Outlets that feel warm or look discolored
  • Buzzing or popping sounds from walls or outlets
  • A burnt smell near your panel or outlets
  • Power loss in one room while the rest of the house is fine

If you notice any of these, it is time to have a professional look at your system.

When to Repair Your Electrical Systems

Old wiring is common in older homes. Panels and outlets that have not been updated in decades may not meet today’s safety standards.

That does not always mean something is about to fail, but it does mean you should plan on repairs or upgrades sooner rather than later.

Other times, damage comes suddenly. Storms, flooding, or even plugging in a new appliance can expose weak spots in your system. Getting repairs done quickly keeps your home safe and prevents bigger problems later.

Common Components That Need Repair

We see the same trouble spots repeatedly in local homes:

  • Outlets and switches that stop working or spark
  • Breakers that keep tripping or will not reset
  • Old wiring that has worn down or frayed
  • Light fixtures that flicker or cut out
  • Panels that cannot handle the demand of modern appliances
  • GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, or outside that fail to trip

These are not DIY fixes. They need a professional to track down the cause and make sure the repair is done safely.

Electrical Safety Tips

While you wait for service, a few simple steps can help keep your home safe:

  • Do not ignore strange smells, buzzing, or popping
  • Avoid running too many things off the same outlet
  • Keep appliances and cords away from water unless protected by a GFCI
  • Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms regularly
  • If a breaker trips more than once, stop resetting it and call for help
  • Keep kids away from outlets and cords that look damage

When to Call an Electrician

Changing a light bulb is fine. Anything more than that should be left to a licensed electrician. Call for help if:

  • Breakers trip constantly, even after resetting
  • You smell something burning or see scorched outlets
  • A power surge damages your electronics
  • Lights flicker across more than one room
  • You hear buzzing in the walls
  • Your house still has knob-and-tube or other outdated wiring

Electrical repairs are not something to guess at. A professional can find the issue and fix it safely.

FAQS

It might be a loose connection, failing wiring, or an overloaded circuit. A professional can tell the difference.

It usually protects you from an overload. If it happens a lot, the breaker may be bad or the wiring may be the issue.

Every few years is smart, especially for older homes. If you are remodeling or adding new appliances, get it checked first.

Other than the very basics, no. Electricity is dangerous. Leave the repairs to a licensed electrician.

Sometimes, it is just a tripped GFCI outlet that needs to be reset. Other times it means there is a wiring problem behind the wall. If resetting does not fix it, call an electrician to check it out.

So Very Impressed

- Debbie F.

Diamond Harris was the HVAC Design who came to my house to give me an estimate for a tankless water heater. I was so very impressed. His customer service, extensive knowledge, and professionalism certainly earn the grade of an A+. A true reflection on black hills Inc.'s hiring practice of hiring and retaining only the best employees. My estimate included not only the tankless water heater but the full installation. Diamond Harris is an asset to your company. Black hills inc was referred to me by my parents who had 3 major projects completed by black hills Inc., and loved working with them. With employees like Diamond, I now see why. Such a positive experience. Thank you. Please give my sincere thank-you to Diamond

Awesome Customer Service

- Lillian B.

We spoke to 3 different companies to get an estimate for a new system. Black Hills was the only company that did exactly what they said they would do from the start. I appreciate the text/photo letting me know who would be arriving and he came right on time. Travis was very polite and professional and answered all of our questions. The installation crew was also very quick and professional and cleaned up afterward. Follow-ups to make sure we were happy with service also appreciated. Awesome customer service

Great Service

- Jordon C.

Great service, No BS. Our AC was not keeping up, had a feeling it was because of a leaking coil on the inner unit. Was confirmed by Black Hills Inc. and was set-up with an appointment with a comfort specialist. After the survey with the specialist (Bento Yanez), we sat down and discussed options for replacement, turning out that full replacement with a heat pump/ac/new furnace would be the most efficient cost-effective option. Black Hills was able to access all the previous history on our unit since prior homeowners had used them, they could pull up everything that had previous work done. Looking forward to the replacement unit being installed in only 4 days, after the survey.
