A slab leak is a hidden leak within your home's concrete foundation slab. These leaks can be caused by corrosion, improper installation, or ground movement over time. Left unrepaired, slab leaks can cause extensive water damage, mold growth, and structural damage.
Signs of a Slab Leak
Watch for these signs of a slab leak:
- Unexplained increase in your water bill
- Hot spots on your floor from a broken hot water line
- Cracked or damaged foundation
- Mold growth
- Low water pressure
- The sound of running water, even when no taps are on
How We Repair Slab Leaks
We use a multi-step process for slab leak repairs:
- Leak Detection: Our experienced plumbers will use advanced leak detection equipment to pinpoint the exact location of the leak, minimizing unnecessary damage.
- Slab Leak Repair Strategy: We’ll discuss with you the most appropriate method for repairing the slab leak. We consider factors such as the location and severity of the damage.
- Slab Leak Repair Process: Depending on the situation, repairs may involve trenching, pipe rerouting, or trenchless repairs.
- Trenchless Slab Leak Repairs: The best care scenario involves a trenchless repair. We’ll need to get access to both sides of the damaged section of the pipe, but there are several methods to repair the pipe, including CIPP (Cured-in-Place-Pipe) or pipe bursting. CIPP involves bringing a flexible epoxy tube inside of the damaged pipe and curing it to seal the damage. Pipe bursting involves pulling a bursting pipe head and a new pipe behind that, bursting the old one open to make room for the new pipe being pulled through.
- Trenching Slab Leak Repair: When damage is severe, it may be necessary to dig a trench to fully replace the damaged pipe. This involves carefully excavating a section of the floor to access the leaking pipe. Once the pipe is exposed, our plumbers will repair or replace the damaged section.
- Pipe Rerouting: Rerouting involves bypassing the damaged section of the pipe by installing a new section elsewhere. This new section may be installed above the slab or in another trenched location. Oftentimes, particular sections of a foundation are prone to ground movement and are not conducive to keeping a pipe safe. Repiping may be a more cost-effective and long-term solution than standard trench pipe repairs.
- Clean-Up and Restoration: After the leak is repaired, we will clean up the work area and help restore your home to its original condition.
