Sewer Camera Inspections in Tumwater & Olympia

A sewer problem is difficult to diagnose when the pipe is buried underground. Slow drains, recurring clogs, sewage odors, and backups can all point to a problem in the line, but they do not reveal exactly what is causing it.

A sewer camera inspection allows plumbers to see inside the pipe without digging through the yard. The camera provides a clear view of the sewer line so the source of the problem can be identified before repairs begin.

What Is a Sewer Camera Inspection?

A sewer camera inspection uses a waterproof, high-resolution camera attached to a flexible cable.

The camera is inserted into the sewer line through an existing access point and travels through the pipe while transmitting video to a monitor above ground.

This process allows plumbers to inspect the condition of the line and locate problems that cannot be seen from the surface.

A sewer inspection camera can reveal blockages, damaged pipe sections, root intrusion, pipe separations, and other issues affecting drainage.

Because the inspection happens inside the pipe, there is no need to dig simply to find the problem.

What Are the Benefits of Sewer Cameras?

Sewer cameras have changed the way plumbing problems are diagnosed.

Benefits include:

  • No unnecessary digging
  • Accurate identification of problems
  • Faster diagnosis
  • Better repair planning
  • Confirmation that repairs solved the issue
  • Early detection of developing problems

The information gathered during a sewer line camera inspection helps eliminate guesswork. Instead of treating symptoms, plumbers can identify the exact location and cause of the problem.

Camera inspections are useful during recurring drain issues, before major repairs, and when evaluating older sewer systems.

What Are the Signs of Sewer Issues?

Sewer problems often start with small warning signs.

Watch for:

  • Frequent drain clogs
  • Slow-draining sinks or tubs
  • Sewage backups
  • Gurgling drains
  • Sewer odors
  • Water pooling in the yard
  • Areas of unusually green grass above the sewer line

Older sewer systems deserve attention as well. Aging pipes are more susceptible to root intrusion, corrosion, and structural damage.

If multiple plumbing fixtures are draining slowly at the same time, a sewer issue becomes more likely than a simple drain clog.

Common Problems Found During a Sewer Camera Inspection

A sewer camera inspection can uncover a wide range of problems.

Tree root intrusion is one of the most common issues in the Olympia and Tumwater area. Roots naturally seek moisture and can enter sewer lines through small openings or pipe joints.

Other common findings include:

  • Pipe corrosion
  • Grease buildup
  • Fat accumulation
  • Cracked pipes
  • Broken pipe sections
  • Offset pipe joints
  • Separated connections
  • Foreign objects lodged in the line

A camera inspection helps determine the condition of the pipe before deciding on the next step.

Finding the exact location of pipe damage helps crews plan broken pipe repair work more accurately.

FAQS

A camera inspection is a good idea when drains repeatedly clog, sewage odors appear, backups occur, or multiple fixtures begin draining slowly at the same time.

Grease, fats, oils, wipes, paper towels, hygiene products, and other non-flushable materials can contribute to drain and sewer line problems.

Routine inspections and cleaning can help identify developing problems before they lead to major blockages or backups.

Regular inspections help identify root intrusion early. Addressing small root problems before they expand can help prevent serious pipe damage.

So Very Impressed

- Debbie F.

Diamond Harris was the HVAC Design who came to my house to give me an estimate for a tankless water heater. I was so very impressed. His customer service, extensive knowledge, and professionalism certainly earn the grade of an A+. A true reflection on black hills Inc.'s hiring practice of hiring and retaining only the best employees. My estimate included not only the tankless water heater but the full installation. Diamond Harris is an asset to your company. Black hills inc was referred to me by my parents who had 3 major projects completed by black hills Inc., and loved working with them. With employees like Diamond, I now see why. Such a positive experience. Thank you. Please give my sincere thank-you to Diamond

Awesome Customer Service

- Lillian B.

We spoke to 3 different companies to get an estimate for a new system. Black Hills was the only company that did exactly what they said they would do from the start. I appreciate the text/photo letting me know who would be arriving and he came right on time. Travis was very polite and professional and answered all of our questions. The installation crew was also very quick and professional and cleaned up afterward. Follow-ups to make sure we were happy with service also appreciated. Awesome customer service

Great Service

- Jordon C.

Great service, No BS. Our AC was not keeping up, had a feeling it was because of a leaking coil on the inner unit. Was confirmed by Black Hills Inc. and was set-up with an appointment with a comfort specialist. After the survey with the specialist (Bento Yanez), we sat down and discussed options for replacement, turning out that full replacement with a heat pump/ac/new furnace would be the most efficient cost-effective option. Black Hills was able to access all the previous history on our unit since prior homeowners had used them, they could pull up everything that had previous work done. Looking forward to the replacement unit being installed in only 4 days, after the survey.
