Sumps Pumps Washington
Sump Pump Repair, Maintenance & Installation Services

If you live in Washington, you know the rain does not let up for long. After days of steady showers, water finds its way into basements and crawl spaces. A sump pump is what keeps that water from turning into flooding, mold, or a mess you have to clean up.
At Black Hills, Inc., we install and service sump pumps for homes across the region. No matter if your basement has already been wet or you just want peace of mind before the next storm, we can help.
What is the Purpose of a Sump Pump?Empty heading
A sump pump is a safeguard against water damage. It sits in a pit at the lowest part of your basement or crawl space. When water collects there, the pump kicks on and sends it outside, away from your foundation.
Without a pump, water can build up fast and leave behind dampness, mold, and foundation cracks. With a pump, the water is gone before you even notice it.
What Are Their Benefits
Having a sump pump in place makes a big difference, especially here in the Northwest. Some of the main benefits are:
- Keeps basements and crawl spaces dry, even during long stretches of rain
- Cuts down on mold and mildew caused by damp air, which helps indoor air quality
- Protects your foundation from water pressure and cracking over time
- Saves personal items stored in the basement from water damage
- Helps prevent pests, since damp basements often attract insects and rodents
- Protects flooring, drywall, and insulation from hidden moisture damage
- Gives you peace of mind when the weather turns
Clean, dry spaces last longer, smell fresher, and are simply easier to live with.

Types of Sump Pumps
Not all sump pumps are the same. Here are the common options:
- Submersible pumps. These sit right in the pit and handle larger amounts of water quietly.
- Pedestal pumps. The motor is located above the pit, making it easier to service.
- Battery backups. Keep working if the power goes out during a storm.
- Combination systems. Pair a main pump with a backup for extra protection.
How They’re Installed
Installing a sump pump means finding the lowest point in the basement or crawl space. A pit is dug there, lined, and fitted with the pump.
A discharge pipe carries the water outside, far enough from the house that it does not run right back in. The pump is wired to power and tested to make sure it kicks on when water rises.
A professional installation makes sure the pump is the right size, in the right place, and set up safely.
Should I Invest in One?
If your basement has ever felt damp, smelled musty, or flooded even once, then yes, a sump pump is worth it. Even if you have not had water yet, homes in the Puget Sound sit on wet ground most of the year. Installing a sump pump is about prevention.
Think about the cost and hassle of a flood. Even an inch of water can soak carpet, damage walls, and start mold growth that lingers long after cleanup. A pump removes that water before it ever spreads. For many homeowners, peace of mind alone is enough reason to have one in place.

FAQs
Maybe. Many homes here are fine until one heavy storm changes that. A pump is cheap insurance compared to water damage.
Most last around 10 years. Regular checks and maintenance help them last longer.
If you have a battery backup, the pump will keep running. Without one, the pump stops when the power does.
It is possible but not recommended. Between digging, electrical work, and drainage setup, it is better to have it done by a pro.
It might be undersized, stuck, or dealing with constant groundwater. It is a sign it needs to be checked.

So Very Impressed
- Debbie F.
Diamond Harris was the HVAC Design who came to my house to give me an estimate for a tankless water heater. I was so very impressed. His customer service, extensive knowledge, and professionalism certainly earn the grade of an A+. A true reflection on black hills Inc.'s hiring practice of hiring and retaining only the best employees. My estimate included not only the tankless water heater but the full installation. Diamond Harris is an asset to your company. Black hills inc was referred to me by my parents who had 3 major projects completed by black hills Inc., and loved working with them. With employees like Diamond, I now see why. Such a positive experience. Thank you. Please give my sincere thank-you to Diamond
Awesome Customer Service

We spoke to 3 different companies to get an estimate for a new system. Black Hills was the only company that did exactly what they said they would do from the start. I appreciate the text/photo letting me know who would be arriving and he came right on time. Travis was very polite and professional and answered all of our questions. The installation crew was also very quick and professional and cleaned up afterward. Follow-ups to make sure we were happy with service also appreciated. Awesome customer service
Great Service
- Jordon C.
Great service, No BS. Our AC was not keeping up, had a feeling it was because of a leaking coil on the inner unit. Was confirmed by Black Hills Inc. and was set-up with an appointment with a comfort specialist. After the survey with the specialist (Bento Yanez), we sat down and discussed options for replacement, turning out that full replacement with a heat pump/ac/new furnace would be the most efficient cost-effective option. Black Hills was able to access all the previous history on our unit since prior homeowners had used them, they could pull up everything that had previous work done. Looking forward to the replacement unit being installed in only 4 days, after the survey.
