When to Consider Electrical Replacements or Upgrades

Consider upgrading your electrical system if you experience any of the following:

Flickering Lights, Frequently Tripped Breakers, or Outdated Electrical Panels

Tripped breakers and flickering lights can indicate a strain on your electrical circuit breaker. This could be due to too many appliances all being connected to a single electrical circuit, it could be a fault in the electrical wiring or breaker, or it could be that you’ve reached the limit on electrical power that your electrical panel can provide.

Outdated Aluminum or Low-Gauge Wiring

If your wiring is faulty, you have outdated aluminum wiring, or it cannot efficiently transfer as much power as is needed, you may need a home rewiring service where we replace your electrical wire with updated, higher gauge electrical wiring.

Planning Renovations or Additions

When you are planning home renovations or additions, it’s the perfect time to change the layout of your electrical wiring and appliances, add more outlets, or upgrade your electrical system to accommodate the increased power needs of a larger home.

Modern kitchen appliances require a lot of electrical power, and older kitchens often have many appliances together on a single circuit. High-draw appliances like stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators often require dedicated circuits. If you are remodeling your kitchen, we recommend upgrading your kitchen’s electrical wiring to bring it up to code.

Electrical Upgrades to Consider

Besides the most recommended electrical upgrades of electrical panels, circuit breakers, and rewiring, here are some other electrical upgrades that are worth considering:

  • Outlets & Switches: Best electrical practices recommend having a three-pronged, grounded outlet every ten feet and GFCI outlets near plumbing fixtures.
    • GFCI Outlets: These outlets are designed for your safety and are required by code near water outlets or in moist environments like the bathroom. They have the TEST and RESET buttons and switch off if contact with water is detected.
    • Bathroom Fan Timers: Are you tired of leaving your bathroom fan running for hours to ventilate a steamy bathroom? Install a bathroom timer switch so you can set it to run for 30 minutes or whatever time you wish. We can even install a more powerful, efficient, and quieter bathroom fan for faster ventilation.
    • Light Timer Switches: Did you know that you can get timed light switches? You can schedule them to turn on and off at particular times, and some even connect to Wi-Fi and your smart home devices.
  • Dedicated Circuits: The current best practice for electrical systems is to have a dedicated circuit breaker for every major appliance that draws power. The AC, oven, microwave, stove, dryer, hot tub, and more should each have their own dedicated circuit so that if you turn on another appliance, the circuit doesn’t trip.
  • Lighting Upgrades: We can do a lot more than repair lighting; we can upgrade your lighting to fit your needs and style.
    • Let There Be Light: Do you have a room that is always dark and dim, even when you try to add lamps? We can install overhead lighting and brighten up the room so it’s functional again.
    • Dimmable Lighting: Bright lights are fantastic for reading, puzzles, crafts, and more, but sometimes you just want to relax and be able to look up without burning your eyes.
    • Accent Lighting: Accent lighting can really make a home feel more comfortable. Lights on wall art and decor, shelving, countertops, and more are great additions to any home.

Real Comments From Real People

So Very Impressed

- Debbie F.

Diamond Harris was the HVAC Design who came to my house to give me an estimate for a tankless water heater. I was so very impressed. His customer service, extensive knowledge, and professionalism certainly earn the grade of an A+. A true reflection on black hills Inc.'s hiring practice of hiring and retaining only the best employees. My estimate included not only the tankless water heater but the full installation. Diamond Harris is an asset to your company. Black hills inc was referred to me by my parents who had 3 major projects completed by black hills Inc., and loved working with them. With employees like Diamond, I now see why. Such a positive experience. Thank you. Please give my sincere thank-you to Diamond

Awesome Customer Service

- Lillian B.

We spoke to 3 different companies to get an estimate for a new system. Black Hills was the only company that did exactly what they said they would do from the start. I appreciate the text/photo letting me know who would be arriving and he came right on time. Travis was very polite and professional and answered all of our questions. The installation crew was also very quick and professional and cleaned up afterward. Follow-ups to make sure we were happy with service also appreciated. Awesome customer service

Great Service

- Jordon C.

Great service, No BS. Our AC was not keeping up, had a feeling it was because of a leaking coil on the inner unit. Was confirmed by Black Hills Inc. and was set-up with an appointment with a comfort specialist. After the survey with the specialist (Bento Yanez), we sat down and discussed options for replacement, turning out that full replacement with a heat pump/ac/new furnace would be the most efficient cost-effective option. Black Hills was able to access all the previous history on our unit since prior homeowners had used them, they could pull up everything that had previous work done. Looking forward to the replacement unit being installed in only 4 days, after the survey.
